MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR
Hello, Niata Families!
Welcome back to a new year of Niata! We’re so lucky to have our talented team of volunteer instructors—Ephrosyne, Elias, Zoe, Nancy, Vasiliki, Zoe and Maria—returning to share their love of Greek dance with our children.
We believe that one of the most powerful lessons we can teach our children is the importance of volunteerism. By stepping up and sharing our time and talents, we not only sustain this program for future generations, but we also model the very values of community and service that are central to our culture.
Many of you were students, and then instructors of Niata in your own youth, and now is the perfect time to share your skills and memories with the next generation. Your experience and enthusiasm are invaluable, and by sharing them, you can help us build an even stronger and more vibrant Niata for everyone.
We’re not asking for a year-long commitment, but rather for parents to come in occasionally to support our dedicated instructors.
I look forward to working with all the parents who answer this call for support.
Contact niata@calgaryhellenic.com if you have any comments, questions or require additional information.

Niata - Youth Greek Folk Dance Program

Niata, directly translated from Greek, means “youth.” The Niata dance began in 1985 with the aim to teach our traditional dances – such an important part of our culture and history – to the youth of our community, and to keep that youth connected to one another. Another part of our mandate is to perform those dances outside of our community, to share Hellenic culture with all Canadians. We are a volunteer-run folk dance group operating under the Hellenic Society of Calgary.
The program is for children from 6-18 years. During its long history, Niata members have performed at a variety of municipal and national events, including the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. Its original students now have children of their own in the program. It is one of the longest-running children’s programs in Calgary.
