Grief and Bereavement is something that touches all of us and in different ways. It is our pleasure to welcome Christina Frangou, an award winning journalist, writer and editor who went through her personal journey of loss. Her career of over 20 years includes, her health medicine and social issues. Her article THE WIDOWHOOD EFFECT about bereavement was powerful.

Christina Frangou’s Biography

Christina Frangou is an independent journalist in Calgary who specializes in writing about health, medicine and social issues. Her work has appeared in places like The Guardian, Maclean’s, The Toronto Star and The Globe and Mail, and she is currently the western correspondent for The Walrus.

Over her 25-year career, Christina has been honoured with some Canada’s most prestigious awards for journalism, including a National Newspaper Award and four National Magazine Awards for feature writing. In 2022, she received the Landsberg Award, given by Canadian Women’s Foundation and the Canadian Journalism Foundation in recognition of her work to shed light on gender injustice.

Outside of her role as a journalist, Christina works in communications, particularly on health and science files. She is a sought-after story consultant with clients in the private and public sectors across North America and is a popular public speaker who hosts events for organizations like Wordfst. She teaches journalism and communications at the University of Toronto, the University of Calgary and SAIT, where she is full-time faculty.

She spends her spare time cycling, hiking and reading.
